Winning Facebook strategies for retailers :Women are using a Facebook application from J.C. Penney to shame their husbands and boyfriends into improving their gift selection. The “Beware of the Doghouse” video allows users to consign their loved ones to a virtual doghouse, which can be escaped only via a click on a jewelry-store link. Victoria’s Secret also is using Facebook to good effect — its presence has attracted more than 800,000 fans.
Shoppers trust user reviews: Online shoppers trust one another’s product reviews, and companies are taking note by incorporating positive feedback into advertising. Amazon, a pioneer in customer reviews, even gave a team of six customers free products in return for their opinions this holiday season.
Survey: Consumers increasingly seek blog advice: A study by Jupiter Research on behalf of BuzzLogic found that half of blog readers consider blogs useful when making purchases, and more than half of this group report consulting blogs just before making a purchase.
